After getting thrashed by the Bay Area version of this series you will now be devasted by 8 Southern California bands. If you’re looking for any of that emo-pop/ska junk that So. Cal’s unfortunately famous for, then you might as well keep your head under that rock it’s been under. Reason being - there’s a fuckload of great underground hardcore/punk/powerviolence/grind goin’ on and this is just a small chunk of their scene(s).
SIDE A
((((1)))) Low Threat Profile: A-MAZING! Short & sweet powerviolence ‘ala No Comment, G-Anx & Crossed Out.
((((2))) Out Of Vogue: Pissed off & accusatory simple So. Cal styled uh, well...So. Cal. hardcore. AWESOME lyrics about the corporatetisation (or better yet Crap-itisation) of the hardcore/punk scene(s). So if you think that Victory/Ferrett Records shit is ‘true hardcore’ then listen to this dorkface!
((((3))))) Find Him & Kill Him: Ouch! A total fury of noisy hardcore, powerviolence as if RKL was on PCP & jammed with No Comment & Crossed Out.
((((4)))) Find Him & Kill Him: Pretty much the same dealy as above
(((5))) Youth Riot: Raw & unstable, uh, “youth” oriented h.c. ‘ala a mid-tempo Charles Bronson but waaay too many FCCs here. Sorry, kids.
SIDE B
(((1))) Burn Your Bridges: Chris “Snoop Dodgy” Dodge (Stikky, Legion of Doom, NUFAN & some band called Spazz) & Bob from Lack of Interest making scene critiquing, catchy & fast-ish action ‘ala Capitalist Causalties & D.R.I. (FCC “fuck that”).
(((2))) Hit Me Back: Wacked out & insane kids making nutsy h.c. (FCCs “dude I love that SHIT”, “fuck”)
((((3))) Harry Balzagna & The Teeny Weenies: SxE (anti-wastoid, fuck-up NOT hardline SxE), sounds a lot like D.C.-era stuff circa ‘81-’83.(FCCs “fucking” 2 times that are understandable).
(4-6 are all by Apathetic Youth) (((4))) Blast-beating frenzy but more pre-grind ultra-core ‘ala Ripcord, Neos, et. al.
((5)) Noisy & Raw.
((((6)))) Rockin’, groovy but very short.
