Guitar-heavy, cerebral, boy rock... somewhere between Soundgarden and Macha. This EP previews this Kentucky trio's upcoming third LP, On Burgin Hill. Male vocals, guitars, guitars, and more guitars -- played well. And there's a minimalist aesthetic here, somehow... sort of like a wall of sparseness, I guess in part thanks to producer Jack Endino (Nirvana, Hot Hot Heat). Sounds radio ready but cool. No FCCs. I like all these songs but you can start with 1, 3.
==> 1. Male and intense in a Soundgarden way. Psychedelic testosterone fun.
2. Heavy ballad. A monotonous melody becomes a platform for
launching the instrumental breaks. Thankfully, no prog solos.
==> 3. Bouncy rocker. Insistent and moody, instrumentally and
vocally... almost trancey in a Macha way. "It tracks you down like some truth."
4. Vaguely anti-war. Heavy dance rock.
5. Early-80s post-punk feel... with lots of guitars.
