TONY MONACO: East to West
Chicken Coup, 2006

HAMMOND B3 ORGAN – This is old-school soul jazz, straight up and swinging hard. Monaco, an energetic B3 player out of Ohio, is joined here by Bay Area guitar master Bruce Forman, whose gliding licks are a good match for Monaco’s smooth/spiky organ attack.

Fo’s Picks: 1, 3 ... 7, 10 also nice

1. 4:49 – upbeat swinger, fun: breezy guitar solo, burning organ & drums
2. 4:32 – “All skate!”… wonderfully cheesy bossa nova; total ice-rink stuff
3. 3:58 – ‘60s-style burner: great organ groove, easy-going sax
4. 5:07 – quick, breezy: rapid guitar slide, organ skips & jumps
5. 5:37 – old Benny Goodman song: a sweet, lazy lope
6. 4:29 – bouncy bebop standard, taken at a mid/uptempo pace
7. 8:19 – casual 6/8 groove, lively guitar solo; organ starts easy, goes big
8. 5:49 – toying with an old standard: lite theme, but solos get a bit feisty
9. 4:59 – cute, happy stroll
10. 5:39 – toe-tapping standard, airy and upbeat
