Classical Persian music improvised with the Brooklyn Rider String Quartet, Kalhor is master of the kamancheh ( Iranian spiked fiddle) & a member of Yo Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble, Dastan & Ghazal ( all in the KZSU library)
Fantastic, beautiful, powerfull & emotional bowed strings
1: 6:54 slow sparse noodling intro. then @ 3:10 fast soaring bowed strings
2: 29:10 haunting bowed strings, low & slow mournful meditation on the fate of the Kurdish Iraqi city of Halabja ( Saddam killed thousands with chemical weapons) ramps up a bit towards the end.
3: 6:23 the setar ( long neck lute with 4 strings) lighter bowed strings
4: 10:34 low bowed strings, Persian version of Romeo & Juliet probably used by troubadours traveling 14th Century Italy, France & Spain
