The Malian superstar vocalist/songwriter delivers her first release in six years. It’s full of hard-hitting lyrics about the life of women in her homeland, dealing with issues such as polygamy and forced underage marriage. Yet many songs have a funky, danceable beat that’s full of life & energy. Her voice carries the day, supple, warm, and versatile, backed by sweet percussion, hot backup singers, and a top-notch band.
