Mathy rock trio. Witt’s music is freeform, noisy, explorative, “post-rock?” out of San Diego. Largely instrumental, non-traditional chords, cerebral, complex stuff. I’m not too familiar with math rock as a genre but parts of this definitely have an early Polvo feel. Off-kilter, head-scratching, chunky, messy-yet-composed stuff. First up is the more recent EP and I’ve also included their full length from last year.

EP
1. Brief, chunky, scattered. (0:36)
2. triplet almost old school western feel, contrasted with funky, big bass, more aggressive section. (2:51)
3. Lower melodic bass, picks up rhythmic shuffle. (2:40)
4. Stuttery drums with angular guitar crunches, poppy bass, multi-part, flowing, structureless, gets a little dancey, vocals come in. (6:08)
5. riffy, repetitive start, complex time signature, mathy, settles on a little melodic groove. (3:12)
6. More straightforward rhythm to start, pleasant guitar/bass interplay, guitar groove, a little loose and dancey. (2:41)
7. Dissonant edge, light vocal melodicism, contrasts with near sloppiness of loose structure. (5:22)
8. goofy rap? (1:11)

LP
1. sampling, space synth opening, scifi. (1:42)
2. light melodic guitar interlining, pleasant, ringing tone repetition. Well crafted little thing. (2:31)
3. Warm guitars with some rimshots, warps around a few times, dizzying guitar part in outro. (3:00)
4. Same as #2 from EP above; maybe a little different. (2:40)
5. Quick, complex, mathy, contrasts pleasantness with abrasiveness. (1:08)
6. Similar to previous track, continuation. (0:51)
7. Again, similar to previous two. (2:49)
8. Brief, fledgling. (1:26)
9. Different version of 3 from EP above; interesting use of dynamics, guitar and drums sound great. (1:47)
10. Rhythmic guitar chords, mathy time, repetitive groove, glitchy synth thing comes in second half. (2:08)
11. Dueling guitar lines for large part of the song, light moody synth in outro. (2:07)
12. 80s synth interlude with straightforward drum machine. (0:36)
13. Glistening, melodic picking in upper register, relatively normal bass playing, very cool syncopation. (2:42)
14. Almost a continuation of the previous track (or different mix), lusher drum kit and more expansive guitar tone; makes the previous track sound tinny and stuff. (2:46)
15. Melody driven by drum fills and scaling riffs; second half of song shifts to newer rhythmic patterns and continues relatively melodically. (3:21)
16. Multi-suite kind of opening, slows down for mellow, pretty section, noisy dissonance comes in, song slows down again, gets near ambient and returns to slow refrain. (4:24)
17. Lots of effects lead in, moves into a groove with bass accenting a groovy guitar off-kilter lick, goes through some more movements, beware of a minute of dead air around -3:50; scifi sampling of some guy rambling about ministers?, 80s synth and cheesy guitar comes in. (7:47)
18. 4'33'' – 4 minutes and 34 seconds of dead air (actually, I think there’s some rumbling and mild background noise in the middle). (4:34)
