[Coll]: Anderson, Gregg and Roe, Elizabeth (Piano Duo) / When Words Fade
Label: Steinway and Sons, 2011
Duo pianists Gregg Anderson and Elizabeth Roe have earned a devoted following with their creative, eclectic, romantic, energetic, artistic concerts, performing on two Steinway Concert D pianos. This disc reached #2 rank on the Billboard Traditional Classical charts. Here, they start with a Michael Jackson hit, move to Vivaldi crying and Mozart laughing, then to rapid-paced, fiery seduction by Georges Bizet’s Carmen, a terrifying Schubert portrait of death pursuing a child, the heart-rending, wordless song of Rachmaninoff’s Vocalise, unrequited love as told by Jacques Brel, Schumann in a strange state, seduction and mystery in a lovely Aria by Villa-Lobos, the nightmare of Radiohead’s Paranoid Android, a new day with Arne’s Glitt’ring Sun, and ending with a Coldplay song, Viva la Vida, inspired by paintings of Frida Kahlo.
