COLL: Hidden Gems from the Vault Label: 22 Digit Records
Newcastle-based 22 Digit Records are very serious about releasing legitimate underground house music and techno - and it shows, with this 4-track EP that features goodies from their archives given a new treatment by artists on their label. The styles range from deep house to tech-y house, accented by deep dubby basslines and nice synth work. All tracks are very thoughtfully produced. The strongest tracks are #1 ("Get it Off") & #4 ("Vibe & Soal"), with #4 as my favorite.
1. "Get it Off" (6:51) - Moodymanc lends his remixing skills to this deep techy house track - a deep dubby bassline and lush synth work paired with some vocal loops that add a bit of soul.
2. "Who Am I" (8:15) - Mesmerizing tech-house with space-y ambience. There are elements of dub in here, with assorted percussive layers. Solid dancefloor material.
3. "Need You Now" (7:03) - A funky bassline and some playful percussive layers over some space-y synths. Great dubby tech-house.
4. "Vibe & Soal" (7:32) - Deep rolling bassline with light and airy synths, a neat and funky little pitched-up effect. Trippy deep house with a lot of soul and sensitivity as well. My favorite track on this EP.
