Tycho – Epoch
Downtempo Electronica/Ambient/Post Rock [NO FCCs]
RIYL: Boards of Canada, Ulrich Schnauss, Neon Indian, Brian Eno
The fourth LP of the Bay Area bedroom production-turned-band. A really distinctively warm, sweet sound, with gauzy analogue synth soundscapes. Straddles the line between chillwave and post rock – a good balance between their last two albums. 4,6,7&11 are great!

*1. "Glider" [4:53] [slow fadeout]
Anticipatory, like a sunrise; driving drum riff
2. "Horizon" [4:09] [semi-sudden stop]
Swelling synths, guitar melody, unintelligible vocal samples, less prominent drums
3. "Slack" [4:11] [sudden stop]
Pulsating synths interspersed with post-rock guitar, bursts of melodic phrases
4. "Receiver" [4:15] [moderate fadeout]
Warm and cozy, downtempo, textural drums/drum machine
5. "Epoch” [5:45] [moderate fadeout]
Expansive, not very melodic, subtle house beat, mostly synths ad drums
*6. "Division" [3:58] [sudden stop]
Prominent (bass) guitar and drums with warm synths, breaks out into some bright post rock moments – tells a story
*7. "Source" [4:18] [moderate fadeout]
Great drum fills, stop-and-start reverby guitars, relatively sparse in texture for the album
8. "Local" [2:53] [long fadeout]
Spacey with an ever-so-slightly abrasive (for Tycho) guitar melody, low pass filter sweeps
9. "Rings" [4:08] [moderate fadeout]
Underwater feel, faster tempo drums glues a lot of synths lines that bubble in and out
10. "Continuum" [1:44] [long fadeout]
A warm, somewhat directionless interlude, understated
*11. "Field” [2:40] [sudden stop]
Strummed guitar, laid back, guitar melody that melts into the synths, lush
