THIS FUCKING ROCKS!!! Don Caballero drummer Damon Che’s new band with guitarist & singer from Uzeda. Steve Albini produced. Hardcore, math, some noise. Sometimes I like to get my ass kicked, and this album does the job thoroughly well. Drums don’t dominate as much as in don cab, with more time allowed to groove and exercise your neck muscles, but still with plenty of interesting rhythms. Giovanna Cacciola’s voice has both the sensitivity of Cat Power and the balls of Patti Smith. And, of course, the Italian accent merits fetish. A great album. Think also of Shellac, Unwound. 2, 4, 5, 6, 9.
1. synth noise, jazz guitar solo. spoken vox. midway rocks out.
2. synth noise, guitar. then rocks out for last minute. great climax!
3. begins right out with hard repetitive groove. simple song structure.
4. another great groove, slower. very catchy.
5. rocks throughout, relentless, beating. a true ass-kicker.
6. ***doesn’t begin until about 1:18. a ballad, absolutely and hauntingly beautiful. i am a sucker for melodica. very cat power.
7. slow hard, repetitive groove. traditional structure.
8. another groove, swung and syncopated with an almost funk feel.
9. lots of rhythm changes, complex structure. honey.
10. starts with slow hard groove, then several rhythmic changes
11. slow hard groove, traditional riff, but very well done. catchy.
