Abstract improv with bass, percussion, and koto (Japanese stringed instrument), teaming up recently deceased legend Peter Kowald with local starts Gino Robair and Miya Masaoka. Bite-sized snippets of 2 and 3 minutes, mostly.
Very nice stuff, and a great introduction if you're new to the "European" improv mode, where they avoid conventional rhythm or harmony. The three instruments make for a richly interlocking sound, and all three musicians are expert at creating interesting spaces in music. Kowald also does Tuvan throat singing, which shows up here and there.
For other Kowald improv groups in our library, look up:
Fjellstad/Kowald/Reason/Robinson
Ali, Rashied/Kowald/Tsahar
1*- Fast, bouncy rhythm
2- Quick jumble, w/bits of throat singing
3- Fast but calm
4- Rumbling, slowish feel but played fast. Koto takes the lead
5*- Throat singing! Ominous; quietly rattly
7- Slow but aggressive, w/exotic "asian" sound
8*- Bright, mid/fast
9- Slow and grinding
10- Tumbling
11- Screechy, a bit aggressive
12- Quick and buzzy
13- Fast quiet clicky sounds
14- Nervous
15- Slow, lumbering
16*- Fast, tumbling
