David Last gave us this recording when he played a similar set on Ghost's show a few weeks ago. I happened to tune in, and enjoyed it immensely. David Last crafts intricate glitch-hop (spacey trip-hop-ish beats), kind of like a spacier Luke Vibert. The music grows and evolves on the fly – it's amazing how "organic" it all sounds for something so electronic in nature. If aliens exist and are way cooler than us, this is definitely what they listen to.
Note that the mix is continuous, so tracks blend together.
Track 4 is such dope glitch-hop/trip-hop!! Also try tracks 3 and 7.
- Captain Dee, 6/04
1. Starts with nighttime insect noises, thin beat. Then, goofy bassline and howling noises. Melodies enter and I feel like I'm at some futuristic, midnight gathering in some obscure Eastern European village. (7:41)
2. Deep pulses of bass, clapping beat, and distorted chants of all types. Distant steel drum melodies make it all very trippy. (6:37)
*3. Deeper sound now. Rhythmic breathing samples. Ambient synths/horns give everything an ethereal feel, and later become more fragmented. Beautiful! (7:33)
**4. Catchiest bassline ever, devastating hip-hop beat, ambient noises, exotic melodies. Sick! I love it. (7:48)
5. Fuzzy noise, then cartoon-y bass and beat. Tweaked-out vocal effusions and tripped-out xylophone melodies. A hip-hop party underwater? (6:52)
6. Fast clapping beat, echoing background noises. Distorted female cooing, wind chime-esque melodies. Great subtle break at 3:08. (6:58)
*7. Goofy bassline from the first track returns. Dramatic strings throughout are strangely compelling. Beat morphs fascinatingly midway. Fades out quietly with insect noises. Yay for symmetry. (7:39)
