TRIAKEL – “Songs from 63 Degrees North”
NorthSide, 2004
Swedish folk trio (voice, fiddle, harmonium). Even if you don’t listen to much music from this part of the world, you may recognize vocalist Emma Härdelin from the band Garmarna. The fiddler plays in Hoven Droven. Booklet explains the songs. Solid, as NorthSide releases generally are.
All tracks good. Fo's picks: 2, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14
1. bouncy rhythm, even vocal
2. bounces along happily
3. steady tempo, lilting vocal
4. slow, droning, plain vocal
5. creaky fiddle, off-center rhythm
6. duet voc; slow and serious
7. ballad “set to an appalling story”
8. nice medley; cute backing riff
9. fun storytelling song
10. slow, serious; builds power
11. rolling, interesting fiddle line
12. upbeat reel, simple & warm
13. high voc, fid/har like a bagpipe
14. happy dance, cute vocal
15. funereal, deep and droning
16. midtempo, poem set to music
