Fila Brazillia – one of most prolific group in electronica – are back with two albums this year. This album is the more recent release. It's as funky as the other disc, but chiller (downtempo), more acoustic oriented, and not as spacey. Actually, the whole album is very guitar based.
Fila Brazillia is always hit or miss, and this album is no different. Some of the beats feel weak, and some of the guitar work/riffs seem trite. However, there are a few phenomenal tracks (mostly the chiller ones) that you need to check out:
Tracks 8 and 22 are some of the best downtempo cuts of the year.
Other Favorites: 11, 18, 23
- Captain Dee 11-2004
There are a ton of tracks (22), mostly around 2 minutes.
Selected Highlights (I'm not a big fan of the tracks I leave out...):
2. Drum jam with goofy sounds. Segments of electric guitar or jazzy keys. (2:34)
3. Cheerful melody. Simple beat, weird male vocals and sound effects. (2:16)
4. Bass heavy electronics/sounds and old-school beat. (3:19)
5. Pumping beat, tense atmosphere. Cool unison guitar & piano segments. Something is looming… (2:39)
6. Twangy banjo, cheerful electronics, goofy bass. Simple and upbeat. (1:56)
7. Bangin' mid-tempo beat, harp arpeggios, loud bass, sound effects. Later, orchestrated riffs. (5:06)
**8. Cosmic ambience yields to lovely guitar loop, downtempo beat, and chorus of humming. Blues for the modern age, under a starry sky. Fila Brazillia at their downtempo best. (3:48)
10. Bloopy and robotic electronics, tick-tock beat. Very Kraftwerk-ish. (4:57)
*11. Strong beat with groovin' bass, distant strings loops, and timed chimes. Spacey and smooth. (4:05)
12. Dancey beat with funky guitar plucks and mysterious sounding chimes. (2:31)
13. A Nintendo game on crack, with a beat. (0:52)
*16. "Futuristic" electronic chords/melodies over a blazin' drum jam. (2:47)
17. Mellow acoustic guitar with ambient electronics. Introspective. (1:37)
*18. Groovin', with a tight beat, cut-up vocals, and horns. So funky! (2:43)
19. Bounce-y beat smeared with catchy electronic melody fragments. (2:05)
*20. Downtempo, pop-ish instrumentals. Strikes me as Stereolab-ish. (2:09)
**22. Kickass beatboxing, deep cello, strings. A new day is dawning (3:06)
*23. No beat. Sophisticated, intimate jazz with bass, drums, piano. Lovely. (3:20)
