The New Mexican Revolution is a folksy, country-ish, Tom Waits-ish band. Oh, and it has an accordion. All the songs are really well done and really beautiful. Track six though is an amazing fast-paced track (if you don’t mind the train at the beginning) Anyways, all the tracks on this rock. But it does take you straight back to Tom Waits. Not that that’s a bad thing…
Track One: Starts out with ambient sound. Then Tom Waits-ish “Gods away on business” sound. Kind of playful, upbeat, lighthearted background with deep male vocals. Fast.
Track Two: Very country beginning with acoustic guitar. Very pretty. Mellow. Midtempo. Great guitar.
Track Three: Slightly jazzy beginning with great keyboard. Almost spoken word. Fairly harsh voice. Dylan-esque.
Track Four: Has a country flavor. Voice is soft and gentle. Funny lyrics. Long.
Track Five: Starts off with edgy sound. Not really sure what that is. A little more lo-fi. Seems like they’re playing kitchen instruments. Harsher vox. Song about a redneck, kind of.
*Track Six: Starts out with train sounds, accordion fades into train sound. Kind of slow, minor accordion solo. Then happy jig, or dance. Nice drum beat. Nice rhythmic voice. Abrupt ending.
Track Seven: Someone opens a door and walks somewhere. Then bass, guitar and accordion. Slow, simple, especially compared to others.
Track Eight: Kind of plodding wagon trail song. Song about a small town. Nice chorus.
Track Nine: Crumpling paper. In background. Another traveling song. Pretty lighthearted. Cute lyrics.
Track Ten: Goes between slow and fast tempo. A song that’s a desperate prayer, he sold his soul to the devil. Long instrumental at the end.
Track Eleven: Just acoustic guitar and vox. Very pretty.
