Carnival Skin - s/t
Fantastic group improv featuring 5 veterans of the scene. The arrangements reach back to the 60s sound for inspiration, but they manage to update that feel for a very modern sound. The horns and rhythm section work together in interesting ways, constantly challenging and playing off each other to create something that's both chaotic and focused. All tracks are excellent.
**1. Lurching group almost-bop, the least wild track
*2. Slow, dissonant ballad
**3. Stately, grandiose group work
*4. Slow start builds to wild group improv with a short whistle interlude then a big finish
*5. Careening improv, but progresses at a deliberate pace
**6. Insistent rhythm section drags wild horns into line
