Classic New Orleans jazz recorded live at Preservation Hall on Aug. 22, 1965. (Watch the levels sometimes it can get quiet on the solos.) Robinson was a fabulous trombonist with a rich, warm sound. He’s joined by equally talented artists on cornet, clarinet, piano, and drums. All instrumentals except #7. Brassy, sassy, and scintillating with a ragtime, speakeasy kind of feel. Play it all.
1. Toe-tapping goodness with a plinky, old-timey sense of fun.
2. Down and dirty slink with relaxed, but solid, work from all.
3. Sweet waves of brass and a tinny piano make for a sweet march.
4. Downtempo, almost sleepy w/that great lowdown gin join feel.
5. Bluesy, downtempo with some cool solos.
6. Midtempo, features some extra sweet cornet/clarinet work.
7. Mid/up gospel classic w/Robinson on vocals (quietly).
8. Bright midtempo bounce w/a playful melody.
9. Upbeat Mardi Gras brass march. Sparkling good.
10. Sweet midtemo shuffle with tight interplays of brass.
11. Alt take of track 1.
12. Alt take of track 8.
