UNIQUE JAZZ VOCALS - This double CD features two sides of Carter, a jazzy singer/songwriter with a flirtatious, bent-note delivery that recalls Jolie Holland, Maria Muldaur, Billie Holiday, or even Blossom Dearie. Disc One (Feather) alternates old-timey barrelhouse romps with haunting ballads. The second disc (Step Lightly) is more of a straightahead jazz affair with some fine blues numbers. This is really captivating stuff; highly recommended.
