Latin Jazz based on rumba, mambo, son, danzon, bembe, bomba, mozambique, bata & polo. Each song has a nice write up and is dedicated to past artists of that style. All tracks are very good. John Santos lives in the SF Bay Area.
1: 5:05 mellow Latin Jazz, minimal male chorus, flute thing
2: 6:21 an afro-son, 1940's Havana, male call, chorus response, nice percussion, cool dance tune
3: 4:31 a descarga, basic salsa, great dance tune, flute & sax
4: 4:43 danzon, 19th Century Cuba, African Euro mix, slow cha cha cha, with flute & violin.
5: 5:18 a Cuban rumba de cajon, tribute to the defenders of the drum, mid tempo, with flute, ramps up 1/2 way through, with fast piano
6: 8:35 New Orleans inspired dirge on Hurricane Katrina, with straight ahead Coltrane style sax and then slow flute
7: 3:33 two bata rhythms with a cha cha cha, with piano, nice baby bass.
8: 4:08 a funky mid 60's Cuban rhythm, fast timbales, nice fem chorus
9: 7:18 a danzon with some rumba & abakua, slow, with violin, flute & piano, nice short percussion jam at the end.
*10: 7:19 a funky bomba, tenor sax with bass & percussion, male vocal/ wail, fem chorus response, nice groove, trumpet
11: 3:42 fast Latin Jazz
***12: 6:47 fast Latin Jazz with percussion dominating, with piano & flute D Farrell 11/2008
