Sometime around the late 80's early 1990's before I was associated with KZSU I listened to a show called "The Folk You Up Show" can't remember the DJ's name now but on his last show I called him up and I still remember one thing he said "if I have introduced anyone to the voice of Sandy Denny I have done something good". This CD is really good, wish there were more vocals by Sandy Denny.
British folk rock, recorded live at a club called Ebbets Field
in Denver Colorado May 23/24 1974. A nice introduction for those who are unfamiliar with Fairport Convention and the late Sandy Denny.
***1:5:04 introduction, then slow to mid Sandy Denny vocal, big bowed string strings, heavy bass
***2: 2:35 fast fast male vocal, great English song, violin, guitars & drums kick in.
***3: 5:09 slow, Sandy Denny vocal, with episodes of big rock sound, nice e guitar
****4: 2:46 lightning fast fiddling, big sound
****5: 4:20 fast fast fiddle, big bass, Instrumental
****6: 6:41 mid tempo, Sandy Denny vocal, steel guitar sound, a classic
****7: 13:23 slow twangy guitars, some chorus, mostly Instrumental, GREAT bass & violin, WOW!
****8: 6:18 slow to mid another Sandy Denny classic, twangy guitar, the last minute of this track are some comments about the next song. Could play #8 & 9 together.
****9: 10:02 slow to mid, A Fairport classic, beautiful Sandy Denny vocal, at 4:50 bass & violin & guitar take off. WOW! last minute the band members are introduced, clapping for encore, YES.
****10: 8:28 the encore, a medley, slow start then hyper drive
***11: 3:50 mid tempo cover of Dylan's "Down In the Flood" Sandy Denny vocal. D Farrell 09/2011
