What if a Brooklyn indie type revisited the 90’s My Bloody Valentine without distortion, and did acoustic shoegaze? Decent answer in this album. M+F trade vocals. Primarily acoustic instruments with electronic effects & edits, other acoustic instruments sampled. Indie sentiments and lo-fi feel with hi-fi recording and care.
It caught my eye from its label Jagjaguwar- has been releasing interesting music for nearly 30 years (I thought the label was based in San Francisco, but Wikipedia says founded in Virignia and currently in Indiana!). The band itself is from New York.
1. + wistful upbeat
2. Downbeat Indie pop with hint of hip-hop
3. + dreamy, more stripped-back. F vocals prominent
4. Faster beat, m. vocal prominent, “your grave”
5. FCC “fuck” too bad, it’s a catchy upbeat song
6. + Instrumental & wordless “aaah” vocals-Dubby with violins, symphonic samples. Builds up layers. Airy, expansive
7. Nervous out-of-tune acoustic guitar. Fast & unhappy. 2nd half slower, guitar goes electric & noisy
8. +Instrumental-Synthesized “aaaahs” gentle intro, violin. Tinkles, shimmer. Floating.
9. Repetitive violins, synth, complaining vox, indie pop
