Dark, plodding, singer songwriter with touches of country music. Acoustic guitar, with a chamber string section, and folk instruments like dulcimer and accordion. This is dark and personal and paints a striking picture of what I’m not sure. Most songs are slow and subtle but once in a while she picks it up either in anger or in a pop song. Produced by Steve Albini.

**1. Slow and dark. Nice strings.
**2. A bit more forceful but it takes it’s time getting there. More of a country sound.
3. Finger picked guitar and a story. A much simpler track. It is just her voice, guitar and percussion.
4. Nasty lyrics. More of an angry sound. She doesn’t like this woman in the story. Plodding that eventually gets louder with some clanking, pounding, and scraping of the strings and drums.
5. Pretty and not so dark with a few vocal dynamics.
6. This is sorta pretty, with her singing very high but the lyrics indicate a violent fight with her lover. For the last minute, a drunken band comes in and shows us the chaos and violence.
**7. Catchier and poppy with some great vocals. Still dark. The track gets a lot busier and louder halfway through.
8. Electric guitar.
Not as good as her last album but still good. -mph
