Album Review

Bent folky dreamy tracks. Aloonaluna recently performed in the KZSU Day of Noise. This double album is a different approach from her current sound - it features full band songs, murky folky experiments, and lush, melodic synths, tones, and dream passages. Lo-fi sleepy warm earthy washes. Weird, unusual, inventive music that may challenge some listeners because of the slow pace, unusual textures, and heavy use of field recordings. It really is worth your time, though. For fans of Roll Over Rover Records, Erik Enocksson, Black Eagle Child, Julian Lynch, Marissa Nadler, Natural Snow Buildings. A Loon A Luna is slightly more song-oriented and Bird Milk more goop-oriented. No FCCs noted

A Loon A Luna
1. Gentle pretty old-time folky vocal lilt w/ light organ. (5:02)
*2. Odd jazzy theremin, keys, and woodwind groove. Almost sounds like a warped cross between Bark Psychosis and Tindersticks!? (6:31)
3. Upbeat clickity, dreamy. Pocahaunted playing at 2x speed. (3:23)
*4. Found sound banging , clattering, collaging. Interesting, dreamy, asian cyclic ambient feel. Really cool stuff. (7:58)
5. Sticky, trippy guitar dip and mid-slow acoustic guitar bob, primitive percussion. (5:27)
6. Howling and tempo change leads into mid-loose indie rock groove that showcases Fister’s vocals. Interesting synths, key solo, bass, textures. (6:00)
7. Upbeat lush neo-folk w/ backing vocals. (2:57)
8. Renaissance guitar, warped synths, picks up tempo with simple percussion. (4:37)
9. Sexualized rhythm, odd synth cough-syrup pop. (3:33)
*10. Heavily effect-drenched reverberations, gorgeous melodic cooing bliss. (6:55)

Bird Milk
*1. Trippy recordings, heavy effects. Grouper going birding on some hallucinogenics. (4:58)
2. Weirdo bedroom slowed nightmarish song. (3:44)
3. Dreamy vocals along hypnotic banjo, bells, and bird calls. (2:26)
*4. For fans of the Lemur Conservation PSA. Collage of banjo, found sounds, and natural samples morph into blissful melodica(?) pop. (4:47)
*5. Blanket of warm, vocal-centric, rustic folk pop dreams. (5:24)
6. Collagy interlude with weird loops and effects. (1:55)
7. Slightly more aggressive and noisy feel. (3:06)
8. Chimes and bells, strange bowing, nonsensical vocals/samples, kind of creepy. (3:26)
9. Strangeness dissolves into billowing guitar rhythmic plod. (4:10)
10. Avian, riverside relaxation, mellow banjo tune. (4:07)
