San Francisco-based group doing funk along the lines of The Meters, Dr. John, Galactic, etc. Organ, guitar, bass, drums, horns. No FCC’s.
*My Favorites*: 1, 4, 8, 10.
1. *(4:00) Mid. INSTRUMENTAL. Steady groove with organ leads, wah-wah guitar.
2. (4:37) Mid. Gospel organ styling to start, then the fonk. Horns, organ trade starring roles.
3. (3:42) Mid. INSTRUMENTAL. Horn heavy, guitar, drum. Change with 2:58 remaining - slows a bit, guitar out front, bluesy, increases in volume, gets fuller.
4. *(4:34) Slow / Mid. Bluesy guitar, cool spacey organ, muted trumpet. Change with 1:38 remaining - gets all-out funktified, jazzy and killer - then returns to slower, main groove.
5. (4:13) Mid. Bluesy and funky groover. Wah-wah guitar, organ, drums with cymbal strikes. Trumpet solo.
6. (4:38) Mid. INSTRUMENTAL. Organ and guitar in step, Guitar solos out front while organ solos in back. Bluesy funk. Solid.
7. (4:32) Mid. Nod to Zigaboo Modeliste and Leo Nocentelli of the Meters. Drums, guitar, organ shine.
8. *(4:13) Mid. Jammin’ groove, sax solo extraordinaire, big horns, big drums. Killer.
9. (4:35) Mid. Even-paced groover, horns, organ, bass, drums; guitar solo.
10. *(4:08) Mid. Upbeat, with some nice guitar work. Danceable ditty.
11. (1:02) Slow. Hidden Track. The Allen Toussaint ‘Everything I Do Gonna Be Funky’. Lo-fi with vinyl scratches. Guitar, horn.
