Former Rolling Stones bassist for over 30 years, Wyman has fronted The Rhythm Kings now for more than 15 years. Part of a box set (#3 of 5) which features many styles including rock, blues, jazz, r’n’b, etc. About half originals, half covers with guests including Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Mick Taylor, George Harrison, Georgie Fame, Peter Frampton, etc. Strong stuff throughout. No FCC’s.
*My Favorites*: 1, 4, 6, 8, 9, 13, 14.
1. *(3:05) Mid. Channeling some Howlin’ Wolf, John Lee Hooker. Kick ass rockin’ blues.
2. (3:31) Mid. Young Rascals classic. Soulful R’n’B, pretty faithful version.
3. (4:06) Mid. Organ predominates on this bluesy r’n’b strut.
4. *(4:10) Mid. Upbeat jazzy zydeco with accordion, solid beat.
5. (3:10) Mid. Mean rockin’ blues, guitar lead, female backing vocals, horns.
6. *(3:46) Slow / Mid. Dark and sparse soulful blues, guitar and backing female vocals.
7. (4:07) Slow. Screamin’ Jay Hawkins classic with female lead vocal, organ, guitar, sax.
8. *(5:00) Slow. Jazzy walk. Guitar, organ, drums predominate.
9. *(2:33) Mid / Fast. Upbeat jazzy strut. Female harmonizing, solid drums, piano.
10. (4:53) Mid. Georgie Fame song. Driving, upbeat a la Mose Allison. Cool.
11. (4:11) Slow / Mid. Lovin’ Spoonful song. A bit mellower than the original, but nice.
12. (3:56) Mid. Upbeat soulful walkin’ strut.
13. *(2:54) Mid. Upbeat bluesy with acoustic guitar, organ, drums.
14. *(4:28) Slow. Sparse, mournful jazz. Piano, guitar, drums.
