Experimental rock/ambient. Ambarchi is a guitarist and composer who can appeal to both the academic crowd and the indie-friendly listeners. This record gives treatment to a whole breadth of different genres -- it features everything from driving free rock to psychoacoustic chill textures to droning ambience. The man’s pedigree is impeccable, but if we must mention who he’s worked with: Sunn O))), Fennesz, O’Rourke, Merzbow, Keiji Haino, etc. Stylistically diverse and most of it is not “difficult,” so check this out. No FCCs.
*1. Dreamy ambient and spacious electronic keys with Paul Duncan (of synth-pop band Warm Ghost) on vocals. Sounds very similar to recent Eluvium. (5:32)
*2. Incredible, lengthy free rocker. Pulsing jazz cymbal rhythm, electronic buzzy feedback and overdriven guitar spastic distorted improv. Ends with sparse splattering electronics. (33:23)
3. Slow, restrained, bare, sustained tones and uncomfortable, yet pretty vocals. gapless transition into track 4. (6:41)
4. Ace Frehley cover. Dreamy summer lounging with electronic drum loop and pleasant melodic guitar bob. Pop? (8:20)
