Interesting “new music” by Chris Brown (electronics + piano), who is joined by William Winant on various percussion. Methodical slow pace, shimmery effects, spacious and contemplative. Not abrasive or atonal, almost ambient. High-level academic stuff -- the liner notes talk about metaphysical properties, Icons, polytemporality, perception of time, etc. Cool mix of classical, experimental, and electronic tendencies to create hypnotic, spiritual drones and sound art.
1. Southeast Asian themed, ambient feel, cycling keys/vibraphone dreaminess. (15:12)
2. More emphasis on syncopated, rattling percussion, becomes a tribal gait with trippy electronic reverberations and effects. (19:17)
3. Slow builds to intense, twinkling, harsher electronic manipulations, drones, and feedback. Percussion is closer to a drum kit here. (17:38)
