Sugarman’s first album in 10 years and it’s a killer. They kick out the funk w/ some insane B3, sax, bass, percussion, horns, guitar. It’s also got some serious soul, some nice R & B, and just plain kicks some serious ass. INSTRUMENTAL w/ just a couple minimal vocals on a couple songs. An instant Classic! No FCC’s.
*My Favorites*: 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11.
1. (2:53) Mid. Swirling organ mass of funky goodness.
2. *(3:14) Mid. Knock knock. ‘Who is it?’, then great answer w/ horn. Nice groover.
3. *(4:40) Mid. Mellower soul stylings w/ easy gait and nice sax.
4. (2:06) Mid. A soul classic ‘But It’s Alright’. HInt of reggae.
5. *(4:03) Mid. Funky struttin’ w/ some audience noise in back. Solid sax, B3.
6. *(2:17) Mid. Laid-back groover, all funky soul.
7. (3:43) Mid. Title track, a Bacharach / David classic. Just a smidgen of fem vocals. Strong version.
8. *(3:06) Mid. Originally done by The Standells, Smidgen of vocals. Catchy hook, great version.
9. *(4:02) Slow / Mid. Hypnotic organ, suave guitar, hipness written all over it.
10. (3:41) Mid. Catchy beat, cool organ and sax w/ great leads.
11. *(2:27) Mid. Killer horns, guitar, percussion. Nice.
