(Name is pronounced Aylin Shengun Tashchi)
Ankara-born Tasçi; sings sharki – love songs of the Ottoman Empire using eastern & western instrumentation – a popular style since the rise of Islamist politics in the 1990s. Deep mezzo soprano voice. She was a musical prodigy, performed with the Youth Chorus of Turkish Radio & Television & studied at the Istanbul Municipality Conservatory. In 2004 she became Artistic Director of the Istanbul State Turkish Music Ensemble. This is her second solo album. In Stanford style, she also has a Ph.D. in International Relations & Political Science from Yeditepe University.
