TONY MONACO: Celebration
Chicken Coup, 2012
SOUL JAZZ – Tony Monaco burns it up as usual on the Hammond B-3 organ. Disc 1 is uneven: it’s all new material, mostly in trios with drums and either sax or guitar. Unfortunately the sax is oddly mixed and never sounds really comfortable, but a few tracks shine when the organ really lets loose. Disc 2 is a “best of” compilation from Monaco’s previous work, and the selections there are outstanding.
