The Hallflowers is a family affair—three female singers and a male multi-instrumentalist. (A few tracks have various guests sitting in.) The songs here are a mixed bag of Great American Songbook pop, swing era, folky, etc. A bit hit or miss.
No FCC issues
** Mid-slow. Andrews Sisters-style take on a Gershwin song with amusing lyrics. (3:10)
Slow. Dreary, syrupy ballad. (2:45)
Slow melancholy ballad. (3:24)
* Slow Nick Lowe love song. Nice performance by alto lead. RIYL k.d. lang, say. (3:23)
** Mid-slow. Good vocal harmony & acoustic guitar accompaniment. (3:21)
Slow, dreary, dull. (3:41)
* Mid-slow, dreamy re-do of A.C. Jobim’s classic. Good guitar & male lead vox. (2:55)
* Start slow, then mid. Another nice Andrews Sister harmonization. Fun song. (3:16)
Very slow. Too mellow, too dreary version of a Johnny Mercer song. Yawn. (2:23)
Slow, sad, folky ballad. Two female voices. Subtle touches of banjo are nice. (4:21)
* Slow. Broken-hearted love song in a Western style. (3:32)
* Mid-tempo. Love-gone-bad folk song. Pretty melody & touches of accordion. (2:08)
Slow. Yet another broken-hearted song, this time with acoustic guitar & cello. (4:37)
Mid-tempo. Strong guitar, but rather goofy old-timey vocal arrangement. (2:32)
