TODD CLOUSER’S A LOVE ELECTRIC: Entre
Royal Potato Family, 2012
POSTMODERN FUSION – Raucous, free, and very funky, the second CD from guitarist Clouser’s jazz-rock group is all original and much more groove-oriented than their debut, which was mostly rock covers. But the same sense of avant psychedelica is there, the same SexMob-like swagger (enhanced by Steven Bernstein’s presence on 3 tracks). Eclectic-minded DJs, don’t sleep on this; give it a try. All instrumental.
All pretty good. Fo’s Picks: 1, 2, 4, 6, 9
1. 5:03 – uptempo free-funk groove, guitar and organ pull it up to the sky
2. 6:19 – warped, drunken walk: fine guitar solo & paranoid rhythmic breathing
3. 6:50 – slow intro, then driving, with a rockish set of solos (guitar, trumpet)
4. 6:28 – blissed-out, bright & fuzzy; mellow keyboard & guitar, no horns
5. 5:47 – straightforward tune, layered stroll with cool percussion & dirty sound
6. 6:23 – cool walk, quirky & kind of catchy: smirking guitar, trumpet w/effects
7. 3:53 – upbeat funky wiggle: drops for bass solo & bluesy guitar, spaces out
8. 6:12 – bass intro, then midtempo, a sort of clomping bluesy boogaloo
9. 5:19 – cool, linear groove: starts chilly but blossoms into warped sunshine
10. 6:46 – relaxed ballad, a more acoustic/organic sound with organ drone
