Good ol’ fashioned stoner rock! This three-way split features a long-winded instrumental jam from SoCal intergalactic narconauts Earthless, who use a full 23 minutes to explore every sonic possibility in an intense, dynamic live improvisation; an instrumental studio jam from Premonition 13, the newest project from Maryland’s doom metal savior Scott “Wino” Weinrich (The Obsessed, Saint Vitus, Spirit Caravan, etc); and some 70s-style hard blues-rock from Radio Moscow, very much in the vein of early pioneers such as Budgie, Cream, Blue Cheer, etc. This is indispensable listening for anyone who likes their guitars cranked up to 11, worshipping at the altar of the almighty Tony Iommi.
1. Earthless (23:29) — drugged-out psych guitar leads in a bubbling, driving jazz-rock frenzy, sounding as if Sabbath had forgotten all their songs right when they started recording their first LP, or Bardo Pond and Sleep jolted awake by endless cups of very black coffee.
2. Premonition 13 (14:13)—a plodding, pensive rumination on riff genesis, emerges slowly but builds into some very dense heavy rocking out, slow and doomy but with vibrant guitar harmonies. Pretty much flawless.
3. Radio Moscow (6:17)—catchy pentatonic cock-rock with wailing wah-wah, infectious head-nodding riffs. These guys should share a stage with SF’s Outlaw.
4. Radio Moscow (5:49)—fuzzier, lo-fi jam with some loose Hendrixian flair totally melts, falls apart, goes off in some very bizarre directions, essentially a guitar effects collage (is that oud at the end??)
