A beautiful mix of ancient and modern Java that showcases a vocalist whose warm, passionate, emotive voice is truly compelling. The orchestra is conducted by the great Dedek Wahyudi. The wonderful notes will tell you all you need to know about performer, composer, and/or history of the music. Rather like Javanese blues, full of both joy and sorrow. It’s all worth a spin, but these are especially worth a listen:
1. A much-too-short solo. Full of emotion & style.
3. Twisting and varied w/a busy musical narrative.
4. The slow blend of vox & orchestra makes for a lovely folktune.
6. Melodic and warm w/a strong blend of past & present.
7 & 8. Both are brief but poetic and inviting.
13. An original by Ms. Laras that leaves you wanting more.
