Younghoon Beats/ Mazez Tape/ Shadowboxer Recordings
I’ve never heard of Younghoon Beats before (and internet research came up with "elusive" as his general description), but I can say that it is once again a very nice surprise coming from the review shelf. This cd is all pretty much down tempo and very thick beats. It’s eery but has some tasteful drums (particularly the heavy kick). It would have been called trip hop if it came out 15 years ago. Many songs are dark and spacy. Very heavy on sampling. I really dig it! Most of the songs carry the same theme so many of my song descriptions will seem similar. There are some really great moments such as 1:24 of track 6. No FCC’s Tracks 6, 7, 8, 9. 10
- 2:26 Dark and downtempo. Beat comes in at :35. semi-ok rap starts at 1:00
- 2:38 Slow and dark with pretty female vocals.
- 3:48 Rolling drums that open with nice female vocals. Unfortunately, she doesn’t come back at all after the intro.
- 3:34 Still downtempo but manages to have a brighter mood than the other songs. Nice motown-type, sampled vocals. Definite retro feel
- 3:33 Bad Skinamax music?, '80's synthie, male vocals at 2:50
- 3:42* Trippy reverbed vocals. Gets some dirty moments (as in sound)
- 3:29* Cool Bob James-ish track. The keys give it a bit more lift than other songs.
- 2:57* Deep and heavy beat with thick, sampled, male vocal. pretty repetitive.
- 3:26* Totally weird and spaced out bad-carnival-on-bad-acid trip. Please, No clowns!
-3:04* Rapping on this tune is better. Cool female vocal on chorus and trippy, western saloon, piano sample throughout. ETN
