Fourth release from Austin-based singer / songwriter playing a nice mix of folky / indie / country stuff w/ a backing band of all women who also join in on the vocals. Great, thoughtful lyrics. For fans of Iron & Wine, Josh Ritter, Simon & Garfunkel. Some fantastic stuff here. No FCC’s.
*My Favorites*: 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 12.
1. *(3:36) Mid. Easy-going w/ catchy hook.
2. *(4:23) Slow. Heartwrencher, slight country vibe, great pedal steel.
3. (5:14) Slow. Beautiful strings, pedal steel, organ, harmonies.
4. *(3:54) Mid. Great little folk tune w/ picked gtr, harmonica.
5. *(5:20) Slow / Mid. Fuller, mellow band, great strings, drums. Wow.
6. (3:01) Slow. Hollow vcl delivery, sparse and airy w/ strings.
7. (4:11) Slow. Just gtr and vcl, sparse.
8. *(4:27) Slow / Mid. Slow start then band, backing vcls, organ.
9. *(4:39) Mid. Gtr picking, harmonizing, pedal steel. Beautiful.
10. (3:59) Slow / Mid. Alternates between sparse and full band.
11. (4:02) Slow / Mid. Quite similar to #10, w/ epic phrases.
12. *(5:00) Slow. Just piano and clarinet w/ vcls. Very nice.
