Woo York: Enigma EP Label: Planet Rhythm
Five solid techno tracks from a live techno outfit from Kiev, Ukraine. Definitely representing the best of the Ukrainian techno underground. The strongest track one is #3 (Mystic Forest) although the rest are definitely worth a try.
1. (Enigma): Ambient-ish intro, slowly building into a dark & spacey techno track. Has a moody and sci-fi ambience. Good pounding beat.
2. (G-13): All you stoners know the the title's reference. Yes, it's like the title, a strong and dubbed-out head-nodder of a deep and slightly psychedelic techno track and you're getting high listening to it.
3. (Mystic Forest): I hear a lot of percussive woodpecker-like sounds, and yes it has the ambience of a dark & mysterious forest. A light little melody interspersed in the track keeps you from getting lost.
4. (Boloto): Grinding effects and crackly-crunch sounds over a intensely building track. Thick and dense material.
5. (1947): Fluttering synths and a deep broken-beat techno rhythm. Not as oppressively pounding as some of the other techno material on this release, as this is a bit more brainy. Some newsreel-style vocal samples.
