AÑA: Basswalker Part 1 Label: Isolated System
AÑA has some mysterious bio information, and I wish I knew a little more. But she seems pretty cool. And as I listened more and more to this EP, it really grew on me. There are four versions of the main song "Basswalker" and the original is a harsh dancefloor pounder but with elements that could be geared well for a solid rave. And yet the EP ends with a space-y synth-heavy dub-house version (Musk Remix) which I liked. The Norman Nodge remix (#3) is also quite good.
1. Heavy dirty bassy techno with mechanical drone. Intense distorted dirty basslines, driving and grinding at you the whole way. Teutonic pounder.
2. Stripped-down deeper techno at a house pace. Very hard and has a nervy & twisted tweak that kind of wears you down a little bit but it's still good stuff.
3. Deep and murderously heavy. Thudding beats and liberal use of the mechanical drone from the original version.
4. A space-y dub-progressive house version of the original. Big change of pace from the brutality of the 3 other versions, as this one features rich synth soundscape and less of the techno oppression.
