El Perro Del Mar / Pale Fire / The Control Group
Genre: Chamber Pop, Swedish, Electronic Folk
Similar artists: Taken by Trees, Frida Hyvönen, Jens Lekman, The Concretes. Heavily influenced by Brian Wilson.
Fifth album from Swedish singer/songwriter Sarah Assbring. Not her best album (check out Love is Not Pop), but the album has a few stand out tracks. Warm, lush synths with melancholy vocals.
* 1. 5:16 - Repetitive vocals over low key drum beat and occasional warm synths
* 2. 4:47 - Brief breezy intro leading into some lovely synths over classic El Perro vocals. Reggae-ish swagger.
3. 3:16 - Abrupt synth intro gives way to marching drum beat. Quick vocals.
4. 3:44 - Starts with vocal samples and light drum kit. Breathy vocals about fire. Boring.
5. 3:21 - Distorted steel drum intro with quiet vocals that build to nothing great.
** 6. 4:24 - This is a hit - classic El Perro Del Mar beat and vocals. Get ready to drink a Mai Tai and sway.
7. 4:11 - Quiet reggae-ish intro - middle of the song breaks down into fuzzy backing with disruptive synths.
8. 4:42 - Starts with solid beat and breathy vocals. Angsty synths start midway with some ghoulish siren samples in the background.
9. 4:23 - Boring for three minutes, then gets decent for last minute. Repetitive vocals that don't do much for me.
* 10. 4:16 - Lovely gradual introduction. Repetitive chanting starts at about two minute mark backed by hand claps.
