Dash Rip Rock - Black Liquor (Alternative Tentacles)
New Orleans trio playing Roots Rock/Americana. Bass, drums, guitar. A bit of a throwback to 90s-era hair bands. Gruff-voiced singer. Guitar solos galore. Not groundbreaking, not terrible. No FCCs detected. Faves: 3, 8, 9, 11 ~Eme O.
1. Black Liquor (2:35) Shades of hair metal. Not sure if this song is about drug addiction, or working yourself to death to feed the country’s oil addiction.
2. Dirt (4:03) Rock of a more head-banging sort, song about erosion, entropy, levees
3. Blood Swamp (4:06) Another song about murderous black liquid
4. In This World (3:53) Less rock, more country-simple song about the joy (and improbability) of finding love in a mean world.
5. Tugboats (2:58) Fast, peppy, jangly guitar song about the constant flow of a river
6. Touch of You (2:58) Rock-metal-country song about a girl’s addictive presence
7. Meet Me at the River (3:50) Country-rock riverside party song
8. Voodoo Doll (2:59) Angry song about a doomed relationship (not the Romeo and Juliet kind)
9. Go Ahead, Baby (2:20) Manic break-up song, guitar sounds unplugged
10. Possession (3:19) Country-rock song letting a potential interloper know that the singer’s girlfriend will not be his
11. Beck Moi Tchew (1:41) A bit of a punk song in Cajun french
12. Anvil or Hammer (4:15) Rock song about a guy who just needs to know where people are coming from. Talk box vocals..
