“Brighter Than the Sun” Kyle Andrews
Catchy, danceable indie pop from Nashville-based singer-songwriter. This is Andrews’ fourth full-length CD since 2006, with a couple of EPs thrown in along the way. (Check out “Real Blasty,” his 2009 release in our library.) His stated philosophy of, “I make music that makes people happy,” certainly comes through in this release.

Recommended: 10, 1, 4, 5, 3, 6. No FCCs.
1. (4:01) Lion — Really strong opener. Lightly tripping and floating synths with an excellent rhythm track and nice changes in dynamics — punctuated by handclaps. Andrews’ upper register vocals create a strong hook. ***
2. (2:58) I Want That Heart — More spacey and frantic. Male vocals with female chorus.
3. (3:44) Crystal Ball — Pulsing synths and catchy, danceable beats make this one of the potential singles on the CD. **
4. (3:17) Looking Up — Starts softly, then shifts into a medium-fast tune with a great bass line that drives the bouncy melody. ***
5. (3:47) Exfoliare (Gotta Make Moves) — Shimmering synths lead into a
bigger, bolder almost-power pop arrangement. **
6. (2:36) If You Wanna Shine — Buzzy, pulsing synths; thumping drum line; handclaps; and shouts of “woo!” carry this dance number. **
7. (2:39) Falling into Flying — Circular, descending runs of notes create a sense of falling from great heights.
8. (2:56) Brighter Than the Sun — Sunny, lighthearted melody set to a trip hop beat.
9. (2:59) Set Your Heart at Ease — Group chorus and doubled vocals lend themselves to the anthemic feel.
10. (4:31) The Way to Wonder — Starts with acoustic guitar and synthesized handclaps, building to a big, bubbly finish. Complex arrangement — strong production throughout. Fun song — my favorite! ****
