Woo York: Grad EP Label: Planet Rhythm
Darkness and light here on this EP. Spooky and cold throughout with its dark ambience and crackly tones, but somehow there's a light touch on the synth tones. I think the winner here on this EP is #1 ("Grad"), and I also liked #2 (Deepbass/Ness Rmx of "Abandoned City"). Nice release from Woo York.
1. "Grad" (6:16) - Thumping deep broken-beats with spooky ambient sounds, but with a light little synth melody throughout
2. "Abandoned City (Deepbass & Ness Remix): (6:21) - The title suggests urban decay - a disturbingly cold and minimalistic approach with dark ambience and pounding beats
3. "Barythmia" (5:44) - A stripped-down dubby track set to a house tempo, with crackles and noises
4. "Abandoned City (Jeroen Search Remix)": (6:12) - Pulsating beats and a dub-influenced reverberating synth tone - but still leaves you a bit cold
