WEASEL WALTER & CHRIS PITSIOKOS: Unplanned Obsolescence
ugEXPLODE, 2013
AVANT-NOISE – Yow! Duo improv madness with Weasel Walter on drums and Chris Pitsiokos on sax and electronics. It’s chaotic and highly aggressive, never really easing up on the pressure, but also varies from moment to moment: elongated skronky tones alternate with pinpoint clusters of notes or harsh, pained squeals; quick martial beats with thunderous clatter or soft scattered thunks. Loud and destructive.
Try any track.
1. 11:43 – dives right in: synth whoops, scrapes & wheezes against rapid-fire staccato drumming; switches to braying/skittering sax after 3 mins, and duo feels really tight by midway point; runs out of steam at end
2. 7:58 – highly agitated start calms down, electronic bloops and whistles, brief bursts of harsh noise take over in middle, slower cries in 2nd half
3. 18:14 – starts with percolation, sax squeals, opens up quickly; quick drums & slicing/piercing synths in a tense dialogue; total freakout at midpoint; second half gradually widens as synth & sax alternate
