Former Selves / The Original Flowering Earth split (Planted Tapes, 2013)
1. (20:03) Former Selves: Oakland based ambient perfection. Lush, tranquil meditation music. Gorgeous drifting tones, a pure simplicity rivaling Brian Eno and Harold Budd in terms of sheer primitive bliss.
2. (20:06) The Original Flowering Earth: Stark, bubbling drone, glitchy loops of guitar and noise, a few disturbing field recordings. Much darker than side A, throbbing with primordial horror. Kind of like that Twilight Zone episode in which the universe gets swallowed by a giant frog, except that never actually happened, so this is like nothing you’ve ever heard before. After the noisy crescendo fizzles out, the track concludes with some pretty fingerpicked folk guitar.
