PRESERVATION HALL JAZZ BAND: That’s It!

NEW ORLEANS JAZZ – For most of its 50+ years, the PHJB has been a staid trad-jazz band full of old men playing the usual old repertoire in the usual old way, straight down the line. But nowadays the PHJB is a multi-generational octet aggressively trying to extend its boundaries. This album contains all-original music. It’s still totally within the tradition, but also bold and funky, fitting the contemporary N.O. scene. And it's FUN.

1. 3:23 – instrumental: ferocious beat, growling horn riffs, jabbing trumpet solo
2. 4:11 – rollicking gospel-jazz: straightforward lyrics, stomping beat
3. 2:44 – happy little swinger, snappy beat, craggy vocal, muted trumpet break
4. 4:29 – instrumental: funky brass band slide: hot trumpet & cool sax
5. 3:19 – great Halloween tune: growling vocal, screamin’ trumpet, sly groove
