Concise Kilgore “100,000 Watts [f. Brand Nubian]” (Soulspazm Records)

Largely a veiled ode to paying dues, Concise Kilgore recruited hip hop’s legendary Lord Jamar and Sadat X (Brand Nubian) to underscore the point on this joint. Jamar and Sadat lend their distinct voices and points of view without missing a beat despite the years in the game. Their deliveries may have changed a little, but their styles are unmistakable. Helping to drive the lyrics home is production punctuated with simple funky piano stabs and punchy horns and punchy boom bap drum programming. A definite neck snapper that has an odd resemblance to Brand Nubian’s classic “Word Is Bond”.

Brand Nubian - Soulspazm Records: If you don’t know the name Concise Kilgore he is a San Diego native (now in Salt Lake City) and is also dubbed ‘Cali Agent #3’ putting in work for ‘Planet Asia’ and ‘Rasco’ as their hype man for shows. This is a track off of his ‘Kobian LP’ where he teams up with tru school vets Brand Nubian. You get funk inspired production with nice boom bap drums and a cool funky piano loop with a funky brass loop for the hook. Concise and Brand Nubian bless the track with some dope lyrical stylings. Solid east coast funky vibe. – M-SMOOTH
