Patrik Skoog: Exit Earth Label: Third Ear
Patrik Skoog is a friend of KZSU and a former guest in our studios. He's better known as DJ Agaric. Patrik is a Swedish-born DJ/producer/musician who now lives in Berlin, and he's known throughout the world for his mindblowing, "other-worldly" DJ sets. This full-length album reflects his extremely diverse musical tastes - from mind-blowing acid to thumping techno to experimental noise compositions. This album's theme is "space exploration" and Patrik challenges you to go on an extraterrestrial journey with him. This entire album is amazing, and don't be afraid to try even the non-dance-y tracks. My favorites include #2 (Saturnian Acid), #4/#5 (Voyager 1/2), #7 (Stay in Orbit) and #8 (Time Won't Come).
1. "Cluster" (5:06): Shimmering and organic IDM - layered synths and a variety of fluttering acidic effects, preparation for the interstellar journey ahead.
2. "Saturnian Acid" (6:48): As the title suggests, this is acid-house. But it's infused with sci-fi elements - laser-firing sounds could be those pitched-up acid tones
3. "Stereo/Waves" (5:29): Dubbed-out house, a bit slower and deeper with sharp stabs of acid. Dialogue about space exploration in background.
4. "Voyager 1" (4:53): Foreboding and ominous feelings here. The synths and metallic percussion build up to a dramatic crescendo of acid & noise.
5. "Voyager 2" (5:44): Rich and silky tech-house. The start of the track features huge acid crescendos carried over from Voyager 1, the end has lovely dramatic synth bursts.
6. "Inside Jupiter's Eye" (4:24): Slower IDM/ambient track; heavy synth washes and occasional claps
7. "Stay In Orbit" (5:28): Exquisite tech-house with an acid/analog bounce. The claps work great here to keep the energy up. Great dancefloor banger.
8. "Time Won't Come" (6:01): A heavy bouncing beat mixed with some of the lightest synths ever. A masterful blend of contrasts. The climax of the track features tweaky and noisy crescendos.
9. "Cygnus A" (5:16): Dubbed-out space-y tech-house. The reverbed synths establish the dub vibe, the thumping beats are purely tech-house.
10. "Death of a Pulsar" (5:05): Can synths cry? Seems like it's slowly dying out, and gives a sad tone
11. "Radio Emissions" (2:45): Dialogue, static bursts, harsh and distorted noises.
