This album is all groovin' 70s funk in the style of Sly & the Family Stone (or maybe the "Shaft" theme song). Every track has wah-wah rhythm guitars, thumping bass lines (often slapped), and synth-sounding strings backing up the vocals. The highlight of the album is a devastatingly funky break on track 8 at 3:33. Other than that one break, nothing on the album was particularly surprising—they give you the traditional funk motifs without giving much more.
No FCC detected.
*1 (2:34) Upbeat soulful track with conga intro, wah-wah guitars
2 (3:36) Schmaltzy ballad
3 (2:34) Fast groove with cool horn intro
*4 (3:04) Slap bass intro with some soulful singing and nice breaks before each chorus
5 (4:57) Repetitive track
6 (4:19) Medium groove, nothing remarkable
7 (3:46) Ballad. Slightly less schmaltzy than #2, but still melodramatic with violins. Not totally convincing
*8 (5:32) Sparse track with a VERY clean rhythm guitar lick in the background throughout. There is a short mediocre guitar solo in the middle. The EXTREMELY funky break at 3:33 makes the whole album worthwhile
9 (3:27) Cheezy ballad with a weird chorus thing going on. On second listen, realized it was a love story about a woman who chooses between saving baby’s life and her own.
10 (2:34) Upbeat, not particularly exciting
