Darkside is the result of experimental dance music producer, Nicolas Jaar, and his touring guitarist, Dave Harrington. A down-tempo project filled with bluesy guitar, hypnotic washes, interesting samples, and altered vocals, the album brings you on an eerie journey. It is very experimental, and very immersive. Nico has a lot of production talent at shaping sounds and creating spacey musical art. The danceable parts of this album are irresistible. Most playable tracks are 1, 3, and 4. No FCC's detected. Sounds a bit like a darker, spacier, Radiohead with a more electronic sampled structure.
- 11:21- Long gorgeous, semi-eerie song. Very fulfilling once four on floor bass comes in. Analog hums, echoes, and interesting guitar work. Very good song.
- 1:22- Interlude. Beautiful reverbed piano and guitar work with analog fuzz in background. Leads right into track 3.
- 4:58- Forward tribal marching drums followed by upbeat guitar work. Goes a bit alternative rock/bluesy with good low frequencies in background.
- 4:50- very bluesy guitar and deep vocals continuous throughout.
- 7:56- lots of bass, claps, and background tinkling. Reverbed guitar. Altered vocals make for an interesting vibe. Very danceable.
- 6:36- very sampled with chaotic guitar. Lots of fuzz and high frequencies. Very cool midi sounds thrown in keeping with rhythm. Most sampled track on album.
- 2:55- Constantly building, echoes in background, lots of tonal sounds to layer. Very difficult to discern vocals.
- 5:07- very down-tempo and ambient. Kick, snare. Good climaxes, use of silence, and change of volumes. Jamming guitar and deep organs in background, and a return to choppy repeated vocals.
