Prostate // RIP VIP
RIYL: Skinny Puppy, Test Dept, Ministry, maybe NIN, Chu Ishikawa's Tetsuo (The Iron Man)
TAGS: Electro-industrial, Minneapolis, Mastered by James Plotkin (Khanate)
Excellent! This album is like a mashup between Skinny Puppy and Test Department, so expect lots of dark electro-industrial beats with clanking metal rhythms and background effects. The music feels like you could dance to it if it were faster, but they keep all songs at a medium pace which builds internal tension in the listener who wants to feel the song really let loose; it's a great effect to see a band exercise such consistent restraint. This is their first album, released in 2013, and I can't wait to hear more. Definitely going to see them live if they come out west. SENT TO US BY THE LABEL "PHAGE TAPES"!
WHOLE ALBUM IS FUCKING GREAT!
1.) (5:20) Instrumental Soft start. Subdued building tones, layers into a dark synthpop riff. Could be an early Depeche Mode song. Ends on random sounds.
2.) (5:26) + OLD SCHOOL electro industrial for a hollowed out warehouse. Mid tempo. Screams are like distorted whispers buried in the background.
3.) (4:16) + Banging metal and synth basslines. This song goes through a number of different textures, almost catchy at one point.
4.) (3:38) + oldschool quasi-EBM beats. Vocals are kind of NIN, nice layers.
5.) (2:38) Really cool ambient which leads into next song. Wouldn't make sense to play this alone, but do it if you wanna play the next track.
6.) (7:19) + + Holy shit. Right away you can tell this is a monster. Spectacular.
7.) (4:51) + + Most powerful and evil track. Like a massive cyborg slowly trudging through thick black oil, on its way to strangle you.
8.) (5:19) + Slightly more sparse than the rest…slightly.
9.) (3:44) + Starts dark ambient, synth pulses and scrapes. Not really a beat or anything, not harsh, just interesting textures.
10.) (4:36) + + Dark and subdued, early ministry / skuppy meets early NIN. In comes a beat that is STRAIGHT UP DEPECHE MODE. This is excellent.
11.) (4:01) + + A beautiful end. Pulses like a heartbeat, beautiful dark ambient textures.
